Under the Clock

Installation

150*150*5cm
2022

An interactive installation designed to resemble a vending machine which offers five fruits: apple, strawberry, kiwi, orange, and watermelon. Participants cannot obtain the fruit they desire simply by naming it; rather, they have to use the specific "fruit machine name" associated with each fruit through iterative exploration of the relationship between the fruit and its corresponding name. After the recognition of words by the speech recognition module and rotation of steering gears, a fruit will be pushed off.

This anthropomorphic fruit machine focuses on common interpersonal communication errors such as mismatched references to discuss the larger context: the defaulting of private referents as consensus due to perspective bias.
